The study of music provides an invaluable connection to a child's personal feelings as well as to that child's intellectual, physical and social growth. Music plays such a significant part of the cultural heritage of all peoples. Through music, children have the opportunity to develop keener insights into the dignity and worth of mankind, to enjoy a more human educational environment, and to know what they feel and feel what they know.

A complete music program includes experiences in listening to, producing and performing music. At Sarah Smith Elementary, the music program is designed to provide a standards-driven, sequential and comprehensive intruction ~ one that offers the experiences necessary for developing a true appreciation for music. Fundamental skills established in kindergarten music are deepened and expanded upon each remaining year, with music experiences that work together with other subjects towards the development of the total child.
