Greetings. I am Neil Thompson and happy to be part of the wonderful world of
Sarah Smith. Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, I come to Sarah Smith
having spent 15 years as Music Specialist of Martha P. Nicholson Elementary
School in east Cobb County. I'm a graduate of Belmont University in
Nashville, Tennessee and hold a Master's Degree in Education from Central
Michigan University. I've always had a love for choral music and am thrilled
to be helping children discover the magic of all types of music ~ be it
through singing, the playing of instruments, listening experiences, movement
or the wonder of musical drama. My primary instruments are trumpet, pipe
organ and piano, which I began studying at age seven.
Music has opened wonderful doors for me to share and experience its joys
far and near. Prior to college, I was given opportunity to do volunteer
choral work with children throughout the Republic of South Africa. This was
a year well-spent as it taught me just how much children can absorb and
respond to this most natural part of life. Here in Atlanta, I enjoy working
as a freelance musician, primarily as a pianist for private parties and
corporate events. For over fifteen years, I've served on the music staff of
Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church in Brookhaven.
Know that I'm open to the ideas, suggestions and concerns of the school
community. My top priority at Sarah Smith is to share my love for music
in a way that will inspire students to make music a lifelong friend and
forever experience the wonder it brings. Thank you for the warm
welcome I've received at Sarah Smith. I look forward to the many
opportunities for music-making with each student I'm blessed to know.
