Do you check homework?

Yes...usually for completeness...but occasionally for correctness. They
are almost always pop homework quizzes. I require that students attempt
homework on the their own. We go over each problem the following day. Every
homework quiz will be comprised mostly of homework problems of which the
answers have already been given.

How will I know my grade?

I will email progress reports on a regular basis--usually on Thursdays or
Fridays. I will print the progress reports on the two formal "Progress
Report" Days. I require each student to have an email address to conserve
paper, unless a parent objects.

Can I have extra help?

Of course.
HOWEVER, HOWEVER, HOWEVER.....I ask that you try to do your homework BY
YOURSELF OR WITH FRIENDS on first attempt. I will go over each problem the
next day, and if you still are having trouble, come for extra help. Students
of high school age need to develop the skill of independent work. The student
will not be successful if he or she is unable to complete their work without
the assistance of a teacher. We want to give hand ups, not hand outs!!!
Many students have become very skillful at getting adults to do their
homework! Please check the Parent Checklist for additional help.

What is the dress code?

See Shaw High School Student Handbook.
Although there will be days that I don't notice small infractions of dress
code, it is the student's responsibility to follow all rules every day. It is
like getting a speeding ticket...there are some days you speed without getting
caught, but it always the law that you follow the speed limit!

Cell phones

No. Although there may be an activity where cell phones may be used, I will
never allow students to use their cellphones to text...even if it is to their
parent.
