Parent Information Sheet
Please complete the following form.
Dear Students, Parents, & Guardians,
We are very excited about being at Shaw this year. Our planning period is from 9:30 – 11:00 each morning. Feel free to call the school (569-3638) during that time if you have questions. We will not be available during the evening hours, but we will be happy to call or meet with you after school during our planning period. Please always sign in at the front office before visiting the classroom.
We will be assigning daily practice assignments, which may be begun in class and finished (or reviewed!) at home. There will be approximately two quizzes and a test for each chapter. Classwork and homework will be evaluated in a variety of ways, but does not constitute the majority of each student’s grade as it is considered practice.
We are always available to students for specific questions about homework problems he or she does not understand before and after school. However, we do expect the student to be paying attention in class before individual instruction is given.
Daily assignments are posted in the classroom as well as dates for tests and quizzes, which will be posted at least several days in advance (with the exception of homework quizzes). There is a link to the Math I standards as well as the Algebra III QCC's under useful links. We will also try to post a calendar of classroom events and assignments each week.
CALENDARS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE!!!!. It is the student’s responsibility to note changes on their calendars and to notify parents of these changes.
Progress Reports will be coming home through the student to the parent on about every 5 weeks. We will be sending home progress reports electronically each week, so if you need a copy, please have your student print one in the library from their email address if you do not have one after school.
We consider it a matter of trust between the parent and student that these are brought home by each young adult.
As almost all parents desire their child to be near the front of the room, we try to rotate the students periodically.
We only have one rule:
“Each student’s behavior shall be such that learning can be accomplished within the classroom.”
We will discuss what this rule entails and how infractions will be disciplined the first few days of class.
Mrs. Burt has taught for 20 years and she is often considered to be very strict compared to some of the younger teachers. Ms. Griffith and I will support one another. Please be aware of the following:
1. In a large class, tardy is not being in your seat when the bell rings.
2. We will not put up with silly distractions. Your child will have to refrain from attention seeking behavior such as loud sneezing, asking nonsubject related questions, etc.....
3. If your child needs extra help, they must be in the classroom by 2:52 or will not be allowed to come in the door. Extra help is over at 3:15. They are expected to complete and have you sign the "At Home Checklist" if they need repetitive additional help. This is a group effort.
There is an End of Course test in Math I. It will count for 15% of each student’s grade. This test is given by the State of Georgia and is not optional. The student must retain information from the whole semester. We will be covering material at a very rapid pace.
I am looking forward to working with you this year. I am in full confidence that we will experience success as long as we work together.
Sincerely,
