Hi, my name is Karen Horne. I grew up in Alabama and recieved my
undergraduate degree from the University of Montevallo and my master's
degree from Kennesaw State University. This is my 31st year teaching.
I have always taught the primary grades (K-2) and love spending my days with
these little people. I have been married to my wonderful husband and best
friend, Matt, for 30 years. We are the very proud parents of two wonderful
daughters. Lauren is a graduate of Georgia State University and works as an
elite team coach with North Atlanta Soccer Association (NASA). She has been
blessed to be able to make her living doing something that involves 2 of her
passions--soccer and children! Elizabeth is a senior at the University of
West Georgia majoring in marketing. She has been a leader in Campus
Crusades for Christ and is a beautiful and caring young lady. We also have a
cat named Precious who rules the roost now that both girls are away from
home.
Interesting facts about me:
* I am one of 5 siblings.
* I played the clarinet for 8 years in school.
* I LOVE COFFEE!
* My favorite snacks are a combination of sweet and salty flavors such as
yogurt covered pretzels.
* Some of my favorite activities include reading, getting a
manicure/pedicure, walking in the mountains or at the beach, playing cards
and dominoes,and trying out new recipes.
* I am a Breast Cancer survivor--5 years and counting!
* I donated a kidney to my older sister.
My mission for my class is that every student feels that they can learn and
grow. Each child will be challenged to work to their potential, strive to go
beyond, and to feel successful. I believe it is important to teach children
how to think on many different levels and to take that skill with them when
they move forward. Every child will come to class and know that they are
important, special, and has something to offer our class. It takes both
school and home to make a difference in a child's education. Let's work
together to give our children the most positive experience!
