Homework

Sign your child's planner nightly next to each homework assignment- stamps/ stickers do not count towards "prize basket" without signatures.

Homework is part of your child's grade. Please ASSIST in completion, but do not do it for them. If there is specific difficulty, write a note and attach to the homework so we may better work wih your child.

Homework may not always follow this projected pattern, as we may change due to the needs of the students. There will be additional math homework on many nights during the week as dictated by daily class needs.

Monday- Math Facts page and spelling pattern work

Tuesday- Spelling Choice for RED WORDS:

write red words words 3 times, write each word in a sentence, write a sentence using all the words, write a story using all the words, create a word search using all the words on grid paper with the words identified , decode any words that are sent home, practice with rule or new sounds

Also a reading page

Wednesday- Put this weeks red words, plus any 5 previously learned red words of your choosing in ABC order - a total of 10 words in ABC order

Thursday- Grammar, Writing, Science, or Social Studies

Friday- religion: often a family sheet or an activity. This is required for both Catholic and non-Catholic families alike

It is VITAL that you practice old red words weekly, read nightly, and practice math facts regularly!

PROJECTS

There will be occasional long term, at home, child centered projects. Look in newsletters, Tuesday folders, and planners for information about these. These are required. You may HELP your child, but if it CAN be done by your child (cutting, gluing, coloring) it SHOULD be done by your child.

There will also be occassional "optional" projects for the those children who like/need a little something more. This will be WELL MARKED as optional.

Practice your prayers and how to cross yourself!

Everyday-

Reading may very well be the best activity a child can do to improve academic performance. Not only can daily reading be enjoyable, but it provides an opportunity to increase vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency. Please read with your child, or have him/her read to you for 15 - 20 minutes every day. A monthly reading log will be sent home and should be returned on the first of the month. We strive for about 600 minutes a month.

If you need some "fun" ideas- contact Ms. Thompson or Mrs. Tuttle.
