During early childhood, it’s critical for parents to influence their
children’s emotional development in a positive way. Here are some good ways
to do that:
• Replace television time with interactions with real people.
• Instead of focusing on the negatives (which is so easy to do), it’s
better to find ways to reinforce what’s good.
• Reduce violent visual images. Research shows that there is a strong
link between violent video games and aggressiveness in children.
• Provide opportunities for social games and activities.
• Role-model emotionally stability and kindness.
• Be explicit in explaining to your child how to behave with peers.
• Help your child to be comfortable away from you.
