Grade 1 Curriculum

Dear Parents,

The first grade curriculum is filled with PICKLES!  Yes, it’s true!  Life is like a Pickle.  Some days are sweet, some days are sour, and some are in-between.  We’ll be learning a PICKLE song, so be listening for it.  We will be comparing feelings to pickles and we’ll be tasting some pickles too.  Kids usually like the bread and butter pickles best that I use for the in-between days.  There is even PICKLE Bingo!

In addition to the Pickles Curriculum, we’ll learn 12 other songs from the Getting Along With Others series.  Teachers report significant changes in the classroom environment as the children experience and learn from the Getting Along songs.  Getting Along is a program for developing skills in cooperation, caring for others, critical thinking, and positive conflict resolution.  The lessons include a poster to help the children recognize and learn, an activity to do to practice, and a song to learn about the concept.

Be listening for the PICKLE and the GETTING ALONG songs.  One of the sweet pickle things about working with your first grader is they don’t realize that I can’t sing!   I’ll look forward to working with your child this year.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Fleming
