Dear Parents,

 

            Welcome to fourth grade.  So many challenging and fun things happen this year.  We’ll begin the year with a Study Skills unit.  We will have a visit from Miss Winters and Miss Napajoni, two Study Skills Experts. After that, we will build on the skills started in Kindergarten by continuing to use the curriculum Creative Conflict Solving for Kids.   

  The fourth graders will also learn how to handle criticism by learning from the Be Cool video series.  Ask them to show you what a HOT, COLD, and the COOL response looks like.  We will take a look at Bullying behaviors using the Be Cool videos.  We’ll do lots of thinking about making healthy choices for our life.  We’ll be thinking about our family and our friends as we begin to understand that conflict is a normal part of life with a set of skills that can be learned to handle disagreements.

  Your child may begin to communicate and ‘try on’ some other ways of handling problems.  Hopefully, you’ll see a more confident child who is learning to manage reactions to problems better than they were before.  Be patient while they are experimenting with these new skills.
