      This month in Math the 5th grade is working on different areas of measurement (area, volume, capacity and the famous π) The 4th graders are learning all about angles and measurements. We are supplementing with our COACH books to get ready for the CRCT as well as continuous reviews to be ready for testing in April.   Everyone has a Math IXL accounts Please continue to practice multiplication facts. 

    For reading we have been reading Treasure Island as a group and completing a double entry journal on each chapter.  We will return to our reading text book and spelling list once we have completed our chapter book.

    Homework we will continue to complete practice sheets to review and prepare for the CRCT.Please have your child read for 15min. every night.

     Reminders check and sign your child’s point sheet and

     agenda.  Make sure homework is getting completed and they are getting enough rest and sleep so we can have a great and productive day

    Katia Jean-Baptiste
    This is my 6h year teaching at Sweet Apple Elementary.  I am a native New Yorker and moved to Georgia 6 years ago.
    I graduated from St. John’s University in N.Y with a degree in speech and language education.  I also hold a
    Master’s Degree in Special Education in Emotional Disorders.  I have been teaching for 21 years and enjoy what I do
    with a passion.  I enjoy reading, water aerobics, listening to music, spending time with my 4 children and traveling.

    About Ms. Walker (Assistant):
     I have been working for Fulton County Schools for almost 8 years. I have been a teacher assistant at Sweet Apple/North Metro for the past four years. I have a degree in HRT Management and am now in school earning a degree in Criminal Justice. I like football, drawing and painting, and outdoor activities. I am a mother to a 13 year old son. I also work at Primetime after school. I love working with kids.

    Michelle Kaufman - Assistant

    I am excited to be a member of GNETs.  I have worked at Sweet Apple Elementary for 8 years.  I grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where I attended the Pittsburgh HS for the Creative and Performing Arts.  I received my Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1996. I have extensive experience working with severely and emotionally disturbed children, children with behavior disorders and children with Autism.  I have worked for three residential care facilities prior to the North Metro Program.  I worked as a Child Care Worker for Charter at Laurel Brook, as a Mental Health Technician for the Devereux Center of GA, and as a Behavioral Specialist and Educational Facilitator for Hillside Hospital.  I have a total of 14 years working with children who have special needs.   

    I have been married to my husband, Gary, for 13 years.  We have two wonderful children: Joshua, who is 10 years old and Jordyn who is 9 years old.   

    My free time is spent enjoying time with my family here in GA, as well as with my parents and family back in Pittsburgh.  When I go back home to visit, I enjoy the snow and skiing in the Blue Ridge Mountains 

    I love the Roswell area and teaching at Sweet Apple is a delight.
