Mrs. West

Newsletters are sent home on the last Friday of the month and provide information about the upcoming month.

About Our Month

We had a great few weeks back establishing our routines and seeing our friends.

Reading: This month we are using our early readers from the trophies reading series to learn about characters, setting and plot elements. We are continuing to practice sequencing the events of the story using boardmaker pictures. We have started using the language arts books to learn about sentence construction. We talked about the 4 parts to a perfect sentence.

1.   Start with a Capital letter

2. End with Punctuation

3. Naming part

4. Telling part

Please continue to help generalize these skills during homework time. Also it is very important to read with your child every night. Let me know if you need help with ideas on books your child can read.

Math: We are continuing to learn about fact families and various ways to add and subtract. We will concentrate on doubles and number patterns in addition and subtraction. Please continue to practice onwww.IXL.comat home with your student. Select add and subtract concepts under first grade.

Social Studies: This month we will discuss groundhog’s day and other holidays around the world.

Sweet Apple is adopting Mimosa Elementary School in order to help them celebrate Valentine’s Day. Please help by sending in a box of gender neutral valentine’s this week for a special student.
