It's hard to believe that the first nine weeks of school is coming to an
end. It always amazes me how quickly a school year goes!
Just a few reminders of things you can do at home to help your child at
school ...
Please go over your child's papers as they come home. Praise their
efforts and review any areas of weakness. Also, please remove the papers
from your child's folder to help with organization.
Continue daily reading with your child. Practicing at home helps build
reading skills they are working on in school. Make this time an enjoyable
time, one that your child will look forward to each day.
Review addition and subtraction math facts regularly. The children are
learning how to solve two-digit number sentences, and knowing the basic math
facts is important in their mastery of these skills. Many of the links on
this webpage have fun ways to practice math facts.
Take advantage of teachable moments. Find ways at home to reinforce
subjects we are working on in school. For example, during our unit on
matter, maybe your child could sort items around your home into solids,
liquids, or gases. Or, you could play store with items in your pantry. Put
prices on the items and have your child find out how much it would cost to
buy them. Or, when shopping, let your child count the coins needed to
purchase the item. Showing your child how to use the information they learn
with every day experiences makes their learning more meaningful.
Thank you for visiting the class webpage. I encourage you to visit the
site often to gather information about our class and to visit the curriculum
links. The links can be used for skill reinforcement and enrichment. I'll
try to update them as we begin new academic units.
A special note of thanks to the Timber Ridge Foundation for providing
our teacher webpages!
