35 Words to Spell

At Timber Ridge Elementary we use the Sitton Spelling Sourcebook Series by Egger Publishing, Inc. Within this spelling program there are 35 Core Spelling words for 1st Grade. 

There will be no "weekly spelling test" rather the core words aren't really mastered until we see them spelled correctly in student writing.

Here are the Core Words that all 1st Graders need to master by the end of the school year:

200 High Frequencey Sight Words
Here is a list of 200 sight words that all first graders must be able to read at the end of the
4th nine weeks (the end of the school year). Below are the benchmarks for how many
words students must be able to read for each 9 weeks:

3rd 9 weeks- 150 words

To practice, make flash cards with your student and quiz them often.
Reading is also a great way to expose children to high frequency sight words!
