First Semester Letter from Ms. Cherry

Aug. 8, 2011

Hello Parents and Students,

I am pleased to be teaching math to your child!  In addition to teaching math, I will also be teaching them general organization and life skills that will help them be successful not only in class, but also in life.  Basic class materials that students should have include #2 pencils with erasers and loose-leaf notebook paper.  To help students to be organized and keep up with their work, all students should have a math notebook (3-ring binder, at least 1 inch thick) that contains only math work. (Click on the "Supply Listing" tab to see the full list of supplies used for class).  The notebook should be divided into five sections, listed and in order as follows: Essential Questions & Notes, Reflections/Journals, Activities, Tests & Quizzes, and Vocabulary.

To present acceptable work and get a fuller understanding of the concepts they are learning, students are required to:

--Complete all their math work using a pencil, unless otherwise directed by the teacher.

--Write a proper paper header (to include a title/the assignment) on their paper, before starting their work on that sheet.  (Points will be deducted for papers not properly labeled.  In cases where the owner is not identified, no credit may be given.)

--For each problem, show all math work, this includes writing the initial problem.  In some instances students may give a worded explanation and/or a detailed diagram to show their work.

Please view the links in my website for other information to help ensure your child's success in math.  I look forward to your child’s successful completion of this school year!

Sincerely,

Ms. Cherry
