Notebooks will be due 12-9-11 at the start of class. Students will staple notebook contents, starting with the table of contents, in numerical order. All assignments need to be completed and pages numbered in order to receive full points on the notebook. The notebook check will count double! So, please keep up with your assignments!

- Students took the Social Studies Benchmark.
- I told students to turn in corrected notebooks for a grade adjustment. Today was the deadline. I am not accepting corrected notebooks tomorrow. If a student has not bothered to turn in a notebook, they may do so and receive points off for turning it in late.
- I am giving students an extra night to complete the AKS packets that were originally due today. The packets are due tomorrow.

- Reminder of quizzes/tests and assignment due dates next week (see class calendar)
- Read parts of and summarized Nightjohn by Gary Paulsen. The story gives students an idea of what slavery in the south was like. We also talked about how it was illegal for slaves to learn to read or write.
- Created a T-chart on the board. Compared reasons to keep the Union together and reasons for the Union to secede (sectionalism). See documents for an example.
Thursday 12-1-11
- Completed notes: Events leading to the Civil War. Students had time in class to answer the backside of #3: opposing political views of the north and south in regards to slavery, states' rights, western expansion and tariffs (used the textbook which can be found online).
- Students were given #10: The 3 Compromises to work on in class. We have discussed all 3 compromises in class and they had time to look up additional information in the book. The worksheet is divided up into grids so students can better visualize what the compromises entailed and the results caused by having the compromises in place.
- Reminded students about notebook quiz tomorrow. The quiz will cover items within their notebooks (worksheets, notes, vocabulary). We went through some examples today in class of what to expect.
- All upcoming due dates and quiz dates have been addressed. The dates are listed on the board and on this web site. Students were verbally reminded to study for tomorrows quiz, keep up with their notebooks and work on the study guide for the 12/9 unit test.

- Review as a class # 7 in the notebook: cause and effect, prelude to the Civil War and growing economic and regional differences.

If not, it will be considered homework to be completed before the notebook check. Students are advised not to wait until the last moment to make sure the notebook is in order and all assignments are complete.
- Tentative unit test date for the Divided Nation: Antebellum/Civil War time period is Friday December 9th. Students were notified that the notebook would be due before the test. Notebooks must be ready to be turned in at start of class. There will be no time to organize notebooks prior to the test Friday.
