Dear Parents,
As I’m sure many of you already know 2012 will be a year of big changes for the Miller family! We are expecting our first baby in August and couldn’t be more excited about becoming parents. It is with a truly heavy heart, though, that I inform you about another big change for our family. My husband, Chris, very recently found out about a promotion within his company. Although it is a great opportunity for him and our family, it unfortunately means that we will be leaving Georgia for him to take the job. Chris has actually already left Atlanta and is busy setting things up for us in our new home of Little Rock, Arkansas. Sadly, this means that we are apart right now and that unfortunately I will be leaving before the end of the school year to join him. My last day at Trickum will be Friday, March 9th, in order for me to get settled in Little Rock before the arrival of Baby Miller.
This has been a difficult decision for me as I don’t want my students to feel like they’ve been abandoned. My worry has been greatly eased in knowing that for the remainder of the school year my students will be in very capable hands. Ms. Miffy Moore, a retired former Trickum teacher and colleague of mine will be taking over my position after I leave. I worked very closely with Ms. Moore during the first four years of my career, as she was the gifted Social Studies teacher in 6thgrade before she retired. She is truly great with 6thgrade students, and I know that she will provide a challenging and rigorous end to the school year for my soon to be 7thgraders! Another plus is that Ms. Moore has subbed for myself (and several other 6thgrade teachers), so my students are already relatively familiar with her. For all of these reasons, I sincerely think that my students will be very well cared for during this time of transition.
With the ease of knowing who will take my place, what I am most worried about now is how I will adjust to leaving this wonderful Trickum community. I could not be any happier with this group of students, and I will truly miss being a part of their lives and sharing in their triumphs. It has been harder than I would have thought to leave such an excellent group of kids. Not only are my students this year wonderful, but I have really been blessed with a very supportive group of parents, which has made my job just that much more enjoyable. It truly has been a pleasure to work in a community where students are supported and where parents have high expectations for what their kids can accomplish. Trickum and Lilburn have been the best places to start my teaching career and I could not have been any more blessed.
If there is anything I can do to make this time of transition easier for you or your students please don’t hesitate to let me know. I hope to make this a smooth transition so as not to disrupt the hard work they’ve been doing all year. Thank you all again for such a wonderful year, and I wish you and your families all the best in the future!
Sincerely,
Ms. Miller
