Homework

MONTHLY HOMEWORK CALENDAR---At the beginning of each month, your child will
receive a monthly homework activity calendar. Please have your child complete
at least 3 activities per week in the Homework Notebook provided and return
it to school each FRIDAY!

MONTHLY READING LOG FOLDER---Also beginning in September, your child will
receive his or her READING LOG FOLDER.
You are asked to record the books you read to your child or books which your
child reads to you in your child's "Reading Log Folder". We encourage you
and your child to read at least 25 books per month!

At the end of each month, your child will earn a special trip to Mrs.
Bower's "Treasure Box" for completing and returning the completed
Reading Log and folder.

FINE MOTOR SKILLS PRACTICE AT HOME--
As your child begins to strengthen his or her fine motor skills, here are a
few fun suggestions to
practice letter, words and number formations at home!

*Use clay or playdough to create letters, words and numbers.
*Fill a flat, shallow baking tray with sand or rice and have your child use
his/her "pointer finger" to write letters, words, and numbers or draw
pictures.
*Use dad's shaving cream to draw letters, words and numbers.
*Have fun painting or creating letters, words and numbers out of macaroni,
noodles or cereal!

DOLCH SIGHT WORD LIST--
The following is a list of the 50 Dolche Sight Words your child will be
learning this year.

If you would like to get a head start on learning our Dolche Sight Words, you
may wish to create
"sight word cards" at home for reading practice. Write each word on 3x5
index card and use the
flashcards for sight word recognition or practice making simple sentences
with them. If you are
creating simple sentences, you will need to add some words with nouns (cat,
dog, fish, boy, fish) to
make complete sentences. You may create more "colorful sentences" by also
adding color words to
your set of index cards.
Example: I see a cat. The dog can run up the tree. I see a black cat. The
brown dog can run up the
tree.
