If you can, please let your child use the website

I'm happy to pass on to you a website that was introduced to me by
Fiona and her mom. It is www.spellingcity.com
Please visit this website and save it as a favorite.
I can type in the spelling list for each week and your child can
practice at home using games from the website and even a practice
spelling test. We used it in class so they've all seen it.

Along with spelling the words, on the back of their papers they will
be asked to write a sentences. The student will be asked to write
dictated sentences (from me) using the spelling words and appling
what has been taught/learned about the spelling words and
capitalization and punctuation. We want to transfer the learning to
our writing.

Rule for spelling
You may want to remind your child that if the vowel is a long vowel
sound "it needs a buddy to say it's name". If it is a short vowel
sound (not saying the letter) it does not need the buddy.
Our goal is for students to understand why a word is spelled the way
it is using spelling rules...not so much the memorization of words
(with the possibility of forgetting once the spelling test is over).
