Reading Rocks at Vaughan- 2009-2010 LITERACY NEWS: Congratulations are in order for several students demonstrating excellent reading and comprehension skills. Gabriella Hinks was recognized today on the Vaughan morning news as top reader in our class! Ryan Galka, Montse Rosas, Zachary Ziegler and Colin McCarthy all received Reading Bucks for most improved reading or quality summaries. Madeline LeZotte was awarded with 2 class dollars for completing new Book Adventure tests. Congratulations kids! Keep up the great work! On the down side, a lot of reading logs have been coming back to me with minimal pages read. Some reading logs aren’t even being turned in! Please make sure that your child is reading throughout the week and writing quality summaries and pages read on their log. Please take the time to sign off on their reading log every Thursday night, as it is due every Friday morning. We do have incentives going on in the classroom. For every Book Adventure test that your child takes, he/she will receive $1 class money. www.bookadventure.com is a great website for the kids to work on. Not only does it have the reading comprehension tests and book finder, but it also has games that they can play and prizes that they can send away for. If you have not logged onto Book Adventure with your child and have misplaced their login id, please let me know. I can give you the information to set them up. We also award 3 students per week with Reading Bucks that they can use in the school store. The determining factors of who receives the Reading Buck is based upon number of pages read, improvement made, and quality summaries. Please take the time over the Thanksgiving break to make sure that your child is doing his or her required reading. I gave them all a challenge to read 150 pages or more during the break. Every child who meets this challenge will be rewarded with a surprise when we return back to school. Each child made a goal a few weeks ago. Whoever achieves their goal of pages read for the 2nd 9 weeks will take part in an ice cream party. If a child does not attain their goal, he/she will lose out on a fun time. I would hate for that to happen & so would the child! I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy your time off & happy reading! Sincerely, Amy Vitelli amynzach@yahoo.com ______________________________________________________________________________ Genre Descriptions Autobiography- The story of a real persons life that is written by that person.
