Binder:
Your
child will be bringing home a binder everyday. This binder will contain an
agenda, behavior chart, homework assignments, and any other important
information or notes. Please make sure to put all completed homework in this
binder and send it back to school each day. If you have any notes, money,
permission slips, etc. that need to be turned in, please place them in this
binder. This binder will be checked daily for communication from home.
|
|
Agenda:
Your child will be
responsible for writing homework assignments in their agenda on a daily
basis. On Monday your child will attach a list of spelling words to practice
for the week. Please look over and initial agenda nightly .
By using the agenda your child learns life skills, such as organization and
responsibility. Do not write important notes in the agenda that may require
immediate attention. Use a separate piece of paper for important notes.
|
|
Behavior Chart:
Your child will bring home
a behavior chart in their binder everyday. Please look at the chart daily to
see if your child’s chart was marked. If it is marked, it must be signed by a
parent and shown to me the following day. I will oversee that behavior is
recorded correctly, but it is the child’s responsibility to get their chart
signed by a parent each night. Charts are collected and kept for records. See
behavior management sheet for more details about behavior chart.

|
Weekly Folder:
Your child will be
bringing home a weekly folder every Friday. This folder will contain all
their graded papers from the week and possibly the previous week. All of the
work in the weekly folder is yours to keep, unless it is marked “Please
Correct and Return” or “Please Sign and Return.” Also, there will be a sheet
stapled inside the folder that you will need to sign each week. This just
lets me know that you have received the folder and have looked over the papers
carefully. Please make sure to clean your child’s work out of the folder
before returning it on Friday.
|
|
Homework:
A
typical week would be a language arts review sheet on Monday and Wednesday, a
math review sheet on Tuesday and Thursday and no homework on Friday. In
addition to review during the week your child is required to read 15-20
minutes each night. Your child should also practice multiplication/division
facts and their current spelling words throughout the week. I encourage you
to review your child’s homework each night and review any mistakes with your
child. It is your child’s responsibility to complete their homework and turn
it in the next morning. Projects may require work over the weekend.

|
Newsletters:
Each week you will receive
an email letting you know that the following week’s newsletter has been posted
on class the website. Please take the time to read over the information
carefully. There are often times that I request things through the newsletter
and give you upcoming important dates.
|
|
Website:
The class website is full
of valuable information about our class that might be helpful to you and your
child. I will try my best to update it each Friday. The class website can be
found at
http://TeacherWeb.com/GA/VaughanElementary/MrsFowles.

Transportation:
Please notify me in
writing any time your child’s dismissal plans change from their usual
routine. For your child’s safety, I must have a written
note in order to make any changes from their normal dismissal.
|
|
Tardies:
A child will be counted
tardy to school if he/she is not in the classroom by 7:50 a.m. If your child
is not in their classroom by 7:50, then a parent must sign them in at
the front office. After your child receives 5 tardies you will be contacted
by the teacher. After 10 tardies you will be contacted by an administrator.
After 15 tardies it will be turned over to the school social worker. It is
very important that your child get to school on time. Give your child enough
time to get in the classroom, unpack and relax before the bell rings. This
will give your child a great start to his/her school day! Let’s teach them to
be punctual!
|
|
Early Checkout:
It is very important that
your child remain at school for the entire day; however there are times when
it may be necessary to check your child out early from school. If this occurs
you can write me a note stating what time you need to check your child out and
I will send them to the office at that time, or go to the office and sign
him/her out and the office will call for your child to be dismissed. For the
safety of students, we are unable to release a child to their parents without
you first checking them out in the front office.
|
|
Absences:
Attendance is very
important in helping your child have a successful year. If your child is
absent, then you must send a dated and signed written note explaining the
reason for your child’s absence upon them returning to school. Excused
absences by Georgia law are as follows: personal illness, illness or death in
student’s family, religious holidays recognized by student’s faith, order from
a court or other government agency, or conditions endangering the student’s
health or safety.
|
|
Medication:
If your child needs to
take medication, it must be brought to the school nurse by a parent in the
original prescription bottle, and a medication form must be filled out.
Children may not bring their own medication to school.

Lunch:
Child’s Lunch -
$1.60 Adult Lunch - $ 2.50
Extra items are available
at an additional cost. You can request to put a block on your child’s account
so that they cannot purchase extra items.
There will be no
charges for lunch this year. If your child does not have money they will only
receive a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a milk for lunch. To avoid
this, make sure your child always has money in their account. Your might
consider having emergency back-up money ($5.00) for your child somewhere in
their backpack so they don’t get stuck in this situation. You may now add
money to your child’s account anytime online at http://www.mealpay.com.

|
Snack Time:
Each day we have snack at
9:10. Please send in a small healthy snack and/or small bottled water. Snack
time is also Star Student sharing time.
|
|
Birthdays:
Birthday parties are not
allowed, however a birthday treat can be sent in to share with the class
during snack time or lunch time. You may also like to join your child for
lunch on his/her birthday. Invitation may not be distributed at class, unless
the entire class is invited. This is to prevent hurt feelings.
