About The Teacher

Welcome :) My name is Kathy Barela. I have taught school for 20 years. I
have taught all 20 years in Cobb County. I started my teaching career at
Mableton Elementary. I transferred to Ford Elementary after 3 years at
Mableton Elementary. I spent 5 years teaching at Ford Elementary. I
transferred to Vaughan when it opened in 1996. I taught 1st grade for 12
years and Kindergarten for 6 years. I was blessed to be in a job share
situation for 3 years in Kindergarten. I was responsible for the Language
Arts, Phonics, Guided Reading and Handwriting portion of each day. I spent
the next 3 years as a full-time Kindergarten teacher. The 2008-2009 academic
school year will be my 3rd year teaching in a part-time EIP-Kindergarten
position. In may of 2008, I completed 20 straight years of being an
educator with the Cobb County School System. :)

I received my undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education
from Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC. I received my Masters and
Specialist Degrees in Early Childhood Education from West Georgia College in
Carrollton, GA.

I am married to a wonderful man named Marcus. He is in the auction and
liquidating business. We have a beautiful daughter named Katie. She is 11
years old and attends Lost Mountain Middle School. She is in 6th grade this
year. Our nephew, Marshall came to live with us in June of 2005. He is
13 years old and is in the 7th grade at Lost Mountain Middle School. He is
a blessing and a wonderful addition to our family. We have a four year old
toy poodle named Max. I call him "Max The Wild Thing Barela". We live in
the Acworth Community. I love seeing my students out in the community at
church, at the YMCA, in the grocery store and in restaurants. It gives me
great joy being a teacher and having the blessing to see my students grow and
mature not only in Kindergarten, but into young adults.

I am looking forward to a great year with all of the children in
kindergarten. We will have many great times in class to share as great
memories in the future. I want to thank you in advance for your support and
open communication this year.

Let's have a great year,
Kathy M. Barela

Mission Statement For Children In Kindergarten

My mission for the children in Kindergarten is for them to have a
passion and desire to learn. I encourage the children under my leadership to
develop the knowledge and character that is needed for the foundation in
future learning. I believe a child's personality should not be a changed
behavior, but a behavior that is directed in a positive direction. I also
believe that we, the teacher and the parents, should work as a team to
support the children in learning in a risk-free environment.
