News Flash for Mrs. Boone’s 5th Grade Class: May 14th, 2009
Important Information
This is such an exciting time for our Fifth Graders! Please pay close attention to
important
details below.
• CRCT PRELIMINARY RESULTS ARE IN! The moment you all have been waiting for!
The Vaughan Fifth
Graders did a wonderful job on the CRCT reading and math sections this year! We only
know the
preliminary scores which say the students who did not meet standards. Do you want to
know if your
child met standards in math and reading? If your child met standards this year in
those subject
areas then you will NOT hear from me this afternoon. If your child DID NOT meet
standards in one of
those areas then I will contact you this afternoon. So, if you do not hear from me by
2:30, then
your child passed both the reading and the math!!  We do not know specific scores
for any student,
other than those that did not meet standards for reading and math. Please be patient
with us. We
will send home your child’s entire CRCT result form as soon as we receive the rest of
the scores.
The students all worked very hard this year and their hard work has paid off!
• Smartboard addition: Mrs. Pitts and I both applied for a grant at Vaughan for
a Smartboard, and
we both won the grant! The Smartboards were installed today. I will receive training
on Monday,
and I hope to incorporate the Smartboard in our remaining lessons next week.
• Graduation Tickets: Graduation tickets are in your child’s Thursday folder
today.
• Envelopes needed: Please send in 2 self addressed stamped envelopes by
Monday, May 18th. One
envelope will be used for the final report card and paperwork sent home, so it needs
to be a LARGE
MANILLA ENVELOPE with 2 stamps on it. The second envelope will be used to send home
the copies of
the CRCT scores, so it can be a regular sized envelope with one stamp. NOTE: Stamp
price has
increased to $0.44 each, so please send in the appropriate stamp. 
• Economics Day: The 5th grade will have Economics Day (9-11:15). We will need
several volunteers
to run our Ice Cream Parlor on May 19th. We will also need help with setup and take
down. Thank
you to Mrs. Sciutti for organizing this event. Please contact her about how you can
help! We still
need help, so please contact Mrs. Sciutti to volunteer!
• Economics Day $: Students will earn $25 per day. Students can earn a bonus
$5 per week for any
clean success records. Students will also earn and lose money for various reasons.
The goal is to
have enough money to spend at all of the stores.
• Harrison High School RISE student: Thank you for all of your donations!
• Middle School Mania continues tomorrow! All classwork and homework is
graded. The contract and
schedule are in your child’s binder.

on Friday, May 15th
from 4-6:30 at the Todaro’s house. A donation of $3 is being requested to cover the
costs of food
provided for all those in attendance.
• Counselor: Students need to send in a self-addressed stamped envelope for a
writing project they
are doing with Mrs. Pickles. The envelope was due this past Monday!

will see
students working on various tasks relating to that thinking skill.
• Math: How do I solve a variety of word problems? Students will complete 2
end of the year

how to solve a
problem 2) end of the year test covering all 5th grade concepts
• Social Studies: EQ: How did American culture change after the Cold War? We
will be studying the
1950s-60s and incorporating the thinking skill of Inductive Reasoning.
• Health: Middle School Mania-Safety
