Announcements

Please help us recognize a new student we have in our classroom. His name
is Lewis Hinton. He moved from another school district, although by the way
it looks in our room, you would think he has been with us all year. He has
made so many friends, and fits in very nicely with everyone in our room.

We are getting ready for our field trip to the GYSTC Science Center at the
end of this month. If you have not turned in your child's permission slip
for this field trip, please do so immediately. If we don't have one turned
in for them, they will not be able to get on the bus to go with us. The cost
of the field trip is $2.00, so please make sure to turn the money in with the
form as well. Thank you for being so prompt in this. There are not many
field trips that the students get to go on during the school year, so they
are really excited about this one.

The robot projects turned out wonderful!! Each one of them was so cute and
VERY creative! The kids really enjoyed sharing them to our class, and
telling how they were made. Next week, each child will do a writing on it,
and I will also get pictures posted to this site so you can take a peek at
the ones turned in. Thank you so much for all of your help with this. I
feel that the most important aspect of this project is just getting to spend
time with your child in a unique way.

The CRCT test is fast approaching! PLEASE continue to study each week with
your child on practice assessments that are coming home with them. If you
notice that your child is struggling with a particular type of problem,
please spend extra time on that skill, possibly creating your own additional
problems using different words or numbers. Any practice they get will help
them when it comes time to take the real test. You can also log them onto
the Georgia OAS website and let them use the computer to do practice
quizzes. This may be a fun alternative to their practice. Please ask me if
you have any questions regarding the test.

This is our last month for the Book It program. I sent home a recording
sheet of your child's reading. Please have them record each book that they
read during the month of March and place your signature beside the title.
Our goal for the month of March is 10 books. If you return the sheet filled
out with at least 10 books, I will send a free pizza coupon home with them.
Each month there will be a new form sent home, with a new reading goal.
Please participate in this program. Not only does it really motivate your
child to read at home, but it rewards them with a yummy treat!

Thank you to those of you who donated money and gifts to the Dzenis Family in
February. They really appreciated it, and it is so great to know how many
giving people we have in a time, where money is tight and the economy is
hurting. I feel truly blessed to have such amazing parents for the kids I
teach each day!

As a reminder, please look at your child's agenda each day and sign your
name on the date so I know that you have seen any notes I may have written
to you. I will put a stamp on the spot for the day if your child has gotten
a green gotcha. The agendas are a great way to communicate with each other
throughout the school year. Please write me any questions you may have in
it, as I will look at it each day and respond when appropriate.

Thank you so much to all the parents who are volunteering in our classroom
this year. Mark Logelin helps out each Monday and Tuesday, Courtney
Jimerson is helping each Tuesday, Jill Meeker is helping each Thursday, and
Mama Judy, well, she is pretty much in the class each day of the school
year. Thank you also to Jill Meeker for signing up to be our class Room
Mom. She is doing a wonderful job with our class this year!

I want to recognize Michayla Ralich, Kaylah Penson-Amey, Skylar Dzenis,
Daniel Kupfer, Reagan Bloedt, Dylan Maldonado, and Isaac Logelin for reaching
the Sun on our sight word challenge! They had to read a total of 820 sight
words to make it there, so it is a huge accomplishment. Please continue to
practice your child's sight words with them each week, and make sure to turn
their list into me when they are ready to read it. Once they pass the level,
I will send a new one home with them.

Finally, thank you for getting your child to school on-time each day. It
means a lot to me (and your child) that you invest so much time
and dedication to their education!

I look forward to a wonderful rest of the year together,
Shelley Thompson
