It is my belief that the relationship developed between a child's family and
their school greatly impacts the success of the child. Because of that, let
me take a few moments to share some information about myself with you. I
have lived in Sharpsburg, Georgia with my husband, Randy, and my two
children, Macee and Gavin for two years. We also have two Golden Retrievers
named Cody and Kujo. Before moving, I worked in the Tulare City Elementary
School District, in California, and spent six years there teaching second
grade. While I was there, I was also given the opportunity to work as a
Support Provider in California's Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment
(BTSA) program. Due to a change of location in my husband's career, we
moved in June of 2006. I have been very fortunate to work as a first grade
teacher in the Coweta County School District at Willis Road Elementary
School during the last two years. I have been lucky enough to grow up in a
family of educators, and have long known that it is my calling to become one
myself. I have a strong passion to help children succeed at all levels in
education, and feel that no other job can give the intrinsic rewards my job
gives to me each day.
I feel that in order to reach all student needs, I need to be creative in
how I develop my daily routines. In addition to the Language Arts and Math
Flex Groups that our first grade team has established, I also group my
students in leveled reading and writing groups. My goal is to have met with
all students in those areas at least a few times each week in a small group
setting. In order to accomplish this, I utilize various literacy centers.
An important aspect of the school year is also the development of individual
student portfolios. These are used as a means of on-going assessment, as
well as a fun keepsake of each child's school year.
Ultimately, I believe in constant communication between the parents of my
students and I. I have an "open-door" policy, and welcome parents to
volunteer their time helping our class on a regular basis, as well as time
spent on special projects, programs, parties, and field trips. I also want
parents to feel free to contact me any time at school via e-mail or phone.
We are partners in your child's education. I welcome any suggestions,
comments, or help that you may have. I look forward to working with you
this year!
My mission as an educator is to focus on and expect positive outcomes for my
students so that they will realize their potential and strive to be
knowledgeable, capable, and honorable citizens. I envision a student-
focused, creative, differentiated, safe, and secure learning environment,
which includes positive parental and family relationships to ensure students
success. My commitment is to foster an environment where challenges will be
overcome and students work hard, take ownership of learning, and focus on
respect.
