First Nine Weeks

All students have been working on age appropriate rhythm activities.Every student has enjoyed learningabout and playing our two new drums,the Surdo from Brazil and the Djun Djun from Africa.All students have been been focusingon better listening through a programcalled “Move It”. This is a great way toconnect movement and classical music.The beginning of every class involvespracticing our vocal techniques andimproving our singing.K and first grade are working on chants.2^nd and 3^rd grades are learning songs fromaround the world.4^th and 5^th graders are doing improvisationson our Orff instruments.

Extra Credit in Music

(1 project for a 9 week period)

 

Create a “homemade” instrument using quality craftsmanship

 

If you take private music lessons bring your music book and perform for the class

 

Write a song and perform it for the teacher with the option of performing for the class

 

Create a music project for the county “Reflections” contest

 

Attend a professional musical performance and share the printed program and highlights of the experience with your class

 

Create a booklet (8 pages or more) that illustrate a song or musical story
