February is an opportunity for the students to learn about President’s Day and Black History.
Week of February 2: The students will learn about the number 18 and the letter Vv. The theme for this week is Dental Health.
Week of February 9: The students will learn about the number 19 and the letter Yy. The theme for this week is Valentine’s Day.
Week of February 16: The students will learn about the number 20 and the letter Jj. The theme for this week is President’s Day and Animals.
Week of February 23: The students will learn about the letter Ii and review the numbers 0 through 20. The theme for this week is Black History.

Social Studies:
KSS_J2008-39: identify the purpose of President’s Day and describe the people or events celebrated
KSS_J2008-40: identify important American symbols and explain their meaning
KSS_J2008-41: use words and phrases related to chronology and time to explain how things change in relation to President’s Day.
KSS_J2008-42: describe American culture by explaining diverse community and family celebrations and customs related to President’s Day.
KSS_J2008-43: retell stories that will illustrate positive character traits and explain how people in the stories (such as George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and the current President) show the qualities of honesty, patriotism, loyalty, courtesy, respect, truth, pride, self-control, moderation and accomplishment
Math
KMA_B2007-27: use informal strategies to share objects equally between two or three people or sets
KMA_B2007-29: count out pennies to buy items that together cost less than 30 cents
KMA_B2007-30: make fair trades involving combinations of pennies and nickels or pennies and dimes
