2nd Gradeā¦.2nd Nine Weeks
We are moving right along this year and your children are making tremendous strides! The second nine weeks has a lot in store for students including the following:
MATH-This nine weeks students will focus on Data Analysis (picture graphs, bar graphs, venn diagrams, and creating tables), telling time to the 5 minutes, hour and half hour (This is a difficult task so please assist your child!!), Fractions (Understanding 1 as a fraction, comparing thirds, sixths, eighths and tenths), and Measurement.
LANGUAGE ARTS-During Reading Workshop students will focus on character, setting, plot, retelling stories and summarizing. During Writing Workshop students will learn about regular and irregular plurals and possessives, linking verbs, how to use colons, beginning, middle and end, using transition words, and developing closure. Also, students will learn the parts of a friendly letter and write one, how to state an opinion, and how to write persuasively.
SOCIAL STUDIES-This nine weeks, second graders will be learning about Native Georgians. They will read about and describe the lives of the Creek and Cherokee Indians. They will be comparing many elements of their culture and the way in which they lived to how we live today. They will also learn about the contributions that Oglethorpe, Musgrove and Tomochichi made when Georgia became the 13th colony.
SCIENCE-Science this nine weeks will include investigating the properties of matter and changes that occur in objects. They will need to identify the three states of matter (solid, liquid, gas) and compare and contrast the different properties of matter.
