Previous Months

February

This month we will learn about internet safety and also critical thinking to
help with study skills. We have a great video called "How To Do Your
Homework Without Throwing Up". We will work on critical thinking puzzles and
play games that are designed for eye-hand coordination, concentration, and
logic.

January

January is Good Touch/Bad Touch. This is a great program that teaches kids
to become empowered with the ability to say no if someone tries to touch
them in an inappropriate way. It is NOT sex education. It teaches the kids
that their bodies belong to them, helps them understand, in an age
appropriate way, that it is OK to say no to an adult if they are trying to
get them to do something that is wrong. It also teaches them it is OK to
tell a secret if it is a bad secret and it's OK to break a promise if it is
a bad promise.

December

Hard to believe Christmas is right around the corner. Soon we will be in
2008. This month we will cover cultural issues and customs in other
countries at Christmas time. We will also have some fun with just kicking
back and watching The Nutcracker.

November

Happy Thanksgiving to all!!! This month I know the teachers are busy
working
on a variety of orjects. Our main focus is Veterans Day, which means we
will
be focusing on the flag and what it means not only to be a Veteran, but what
Veterans Day means. We will watch a fun video on Patrotism, Loyaly, and
Citizenship. We will make several different projects that are age
apporpriate as well as read numerous books on the flag and the United States.

October

This month is all about drug, alcohol and tobacco awareness. We have some
very cool videos and books we will be working with as well as puzzles and
contests for posters and essays. This month is Red Ribbon month, which
represents the DEA Agent named Kiki Camareno. He was about to make a huge
drug bust on a drug cartel on the border in California. Three days prior to
the bust he was found tortured and murdered. The town did not want him to
be forgotten and so they began the Red Ribbon campaign.

September

This month we work on Stranger Danger. We will read books, do puzzles,
color sheets, role play, and watch videos...all related to Stranger
Danger. We will also cover Internet Safety and watch a safe side video
related to this. Parents, please get a code or pass word with your kids.
This could save their lives. Reinforce what they are learning in
counseling!!!

respect and bullying. The kids will learn about the laws and policies on
bullying. We will watch a variety of video's, role play, do some fun
