About The Teacher Label:
About The Teacher
My name is Debra Clackum. I am married to David, and we have two wonderful children, Bonnie - 28 and Jon - 24. I grew up here in Marietta...went to city schools...graduated from Marietta High. I went to Kennesaw when it was a jr.college and transferred to Georgia State University. I majored in Early Childhood Education and have taught 26 years for Cobb and 3 years of preschool during the 7 years I stayed out with my children. I have one brother, James, he is married and works for School Box! My parents are retired and live in Mineral Bluff, GA...right outside of Blue Ridge. My dad retired from Lockheed GA and they built a cabin on property he lived on as a youngster and was able to "buy back" for his retirement home! I completed my master's degree in May 2007 from KSU!
Mission Label:
Mission
Every year as I begin with a new little group of learners...I make it our goal for these precious ones to LOVE school. We feel that if they feel safe and secure in this new classroom environment learning will happen. We want them to be ready to read when they leave us. They don't all have to be reading...that happens for young children at their own time. But, we do want them to know their letters, know the sounds, and be able to "manipulate" or "play" with letters, words, rhymes, etc. It takes a village as they say...our classroom activities, relations with peers (role models), home activities, specialists (i.e. our P.E. teachers, Mr. Matthews, Mrs. Kaltreider, Mrs. Robinson, Mrs. Alter, Mrs. Ranger, Mrs. Rowley), the lunchroom staff, custodians, administration, bus drivers, media specialist, etc. all combined make for a confident, self-assured, happy, prepared, East Side Kindergartner!
