East Side Elementary School Counseling Program Philosophy
Our Mission
In conjunction with the mission of the Cobb County School Counseling Program
and the East Side Elementary School mission, our mission is to ensure a safe
and supportive environment in which all students acquire the knowledge, skills
and attitudes needed for academic, career and personal/social development to
become life-long learners, creative thinkers, and responsible individuals.
We Believe:
·students are our highest priority
·all students have dignity and worth regardless of their differences
·all students will have access to a comprehensive school counseling program
that addresses their goals in academic, career and personal/social development
·school counselors are advocates and catalysts for the growth of and support
for every student; fostering connectedness with students, staff, and families
to create the possibility for transformation and success
·in the fundamental values of respect, responsibility and relationships and
that every student has the right to be heard and treated with dignity
·all students, when given a safe, nurturing environment, will succeed to their
highest individual talent and potential.
Our School Counseling Program:
·is comprehensive in scope
·is proactive in design
·is an integral part of the educational program for student success
·utilizes the American School Counseling Association (ASCA) National Standards
as the foundation for a guidance curriculum that supports academic, career,
and personal/social development
·ensures a delivery system that provides a school guidance curriculum,
individual student planning, responsive services, and system support
·is implemented by certified school counselors and is conducted in
collaboration with students, other educators, families, and the community
·uses data to drive intentional guidance activities and to advocate for
systems change
·celebrates success!
All School Counselors will:
·design, implement and evaluate the comprehensive school counseling program to
align with the district’s strategic plan
·abide by the professional school counseling ethics as advocated by the
American School Counselors Association
·participate in professional development activities essential to maintaining a
quality school counseling program.
