What is the Target Curriculum?

Gifted services must meet Quality Core Curriculum objectives while providing differentiated curriculum based on the assessed needs of the students. This gifted curriculum includes a more elaborate, complex, and in-depth study of major ideas, problems and themes than would ordinarily be available in the regular classroom. The curriculum blends instruction in math, science, social studies and language arts into units that examine central themes, issues, problems and topics.

In the classroom I encourage gifted students to effectively utilize their capacity to think, reason, comprehend, and know about a subject. As well, I stress flexibility, the ability to set aside established conventions when appropriate, and evolve novel solutions.

Continuation Criteria

Students in Grades K-3 must: Maintain acceptable progress in regular classroom by having a majority of 2's and 3's in the core subjects of reading, English, mathematics, science, and social studies. Also, students must meet or exceed standards in all subjects on the Georgia Criterion-Referenced Competency Test (CRCT)   In the gifted resource class students must demonstrate at least 14 out of 20 assessment indicators on their Target Progress Report each 9 weeks.
