Homework Explanation

Students will record practice, tests, field trips, specials, and other important information in their
planners every Monday morning. In addition, they will add to them throughout the week.  I encourage
you to look through their planners nightly and to sign off each day as they complete their assignments.
This will keep your child accountable and keep you informed about what your child is working on,
when something is due, and you can see when specials are, as well as, special projects.

The fourth grade policy is that not completing and turning in (practice) homework assignments
WILL affect “honor roll” status.

90 to 100 = A

80 to 89 = B

74 to 79 = C

70 to 73 = D

If a student receives an "N" in workstudy skills, behavior, or handwriting they cannot
qualify for the honor roll.

Missing 0 - 2 practice (homework) assignments - students can still receive an “O”
Missing 3 - 5 practice (homework) assignments - students will receive an “S”
Missing 6 or more practice (homework) assignments - students will receive an “N”

Unless a specific date is assigned, practice (homework) is due the next day. Students should
be reading a book for at least 20 minutes a night. A reading log will be used to document this.
Reading can include books, magazines, cereal boxes, and anything that helps expand vocabulary
or reading skills.

As a parent, I also know there are some nights when 20 minutes plus practice and extra-curricular
activities are not possible so if you need to make-up the time on the weekend that is fine also. My
goal is just to give them practice, not to be a time /day keeper.
