Are we allowed to bring a snack?

We will have a snack break each day. I do request that you send a healthy
snack such as fruit, vegetables, popcorn, granola bars, pretzels, dry cereal, etc.

May we bring a water bottle?

Yes, feel free to bring a water bottle, but please make sure it has a tight
lid or cap so we don't have spills. You might want to freeze the water (at
least partially) so it stays cold all day especially with the warm weather we
have been experiencing. Please be sure your name is on your bottle especially
if it just a generic bottle.

May we bring books or magazines from home?

Books and magazines from home are fine as long as they are appropriate. Please
be sure to have your name inside the front
cover.

When does school start and end?

The bell rings at 7:50 to begin the day. I encourage you to get here earlier
so you have time to unpack, say hi to a friend, and get
your day off to an organized start. The bell rings at 2:10 to start
dismissal.

Where can we find out information about upcoming tests?

I will post information about upcoming tests on Monday of that week,
on the class planner in our room, as well as the calendar on my web site.

Does the planner have to be signed every night?

Yes! This is the student's responsibility to bring it to you and make sure it
is signed before they come to school.

PLEASE, do not sign their planner until you are satisfied that they
have done their homework, if any, and any papers to be signed are
ready to be returned to school.

Can I come and eat lunch with my child?

YES!!!! Students are so excited when their parent(s) come and eat with them at
school. There is a special parent table for you and your child to eat at and
they may select a friend to join them.

What is the best way to get in touch with you?

The best way to get in touch with me is by email. You can email me at
mary.lipscomb@cobbk12.org. I check my emails before school, after school, and
if I get a break during the day. I will get back to you within 24 hours at the
most. If it is imperative that you get to me,
please call the school (770) 578-7200 and they will get a message to me.

Can I expect homework every night?

Homework is given to reinforce a skill. If I do give homework, I think enough
of your child's time to correct the work so I can evaluate if they have
mastered or understand the skill. Homework is not counted as part of their
report card grade, but it is a matter of respect and accountability that they
complete the work I assign.

They will be asked to read some each night as reading will be a large part of
the fourth grade. Hopefully, because they will have
more input into what they read they will not look upon it as homework but
pleasurable reading.

Also, there may be those that still need to review their math facts
and this could be their nightly assignment.

What do they need since they are in portables?

I would suggest they keep a small collapsible umbrella at school for
those surprise showers as we are going in and out of the school
several times a day. I also suggest keeping a light sweater or jacket, as room
temperature is never right for everyone, so it is good to have something you
can just reach for if the situation necessitates.
