Nov. 11 I am thankful to be working with your children and watching them grow into independent learners. Thank you for sharing them with me during our journey in third grade. We are very excited to be sending our book off to the publisher this week. The cover has been made, the illustrations are complete and tomorrow we will decide on our dedication. I expect delivery before the winter break. The class has done an outstanding job mastering the concept of division. We are ready to post-test this week. Next week we'll spend time reviewing counting change and interpreting graphs. Social Studies work will dominate our learning for the next few weeks. During reading time the students are working to learn from their reading as they study the contributions to freedom and the rights of Americans given by Paul Revere and then Susan B. Anthony. We will not have formal tests on these people, but instead, the students will be working on performance task projects in class. Parents do not have to worry about any preparation or help since these will be done as a part of our regular classwork. We are also spending time learning about the productive resources people use. These include natural, human and capital resources. What's Coming Up: East Side's book fair will be held next week. Our class will preview the fair on Tuesday at 11:40. You are invited to join us in the Media Center at that time. After Thanksgiving we will begin our math study of geometry. Frederick Douglass will be studied during our reading and social studies time. We will also learn about the different habitats in Georgia. Our High Touch High Tech program titled "Georgiaology" will be on December 3 from 8:00-9:30. I will be sending home a letter about Third Grade's Economics Fair when we return from Thanksgiving. Our Economics Fair will be held on December 18. Thank you in advance for sending in your spare pennies. The children will be earning pennies the two weeks prior to our fair and this will be the cash they can spend to shop at the fair. The P.E. team would like to encourage everyone to participate in the Jingle Jog December 5.
