November Updates
Mrs. Stephens' and Mrs. Hayman's Spunky Monkeys 2009-2010
During this month in kindergarten, we will be very busy looking for signs of
Fall, discussing how life now compares to long ago, and compliment circles.
Currently, in Science, we are comparing and contrasting life for children
today vs. back in the time of the Pilgrims and Native Americans. We are
investigating with corn (taste, shucking corn, measuring with it, and
discussing needs of corn for growth.)Students are learning how to use
different types of graphic organizers to brainstorm and organize their
thoughts. Again, it has been a very fun, hands-on month in Science.
We have spent a great deal of time learning and reciting nursery rhymes.
Students are working to get rhythm and rhyme to tell a story. Ask your child
to recite a nursery rhyme with you.
In math, we have completed numbers to five and counting out sets. We are
currently working on plane shapes and 3-Dimensional shapes. We have
been "detectives" walking through the school with clipboards drawing and
marking what/where we have seen shapes. Help your child find shapes in the
environment, at home, and in games they play.
Thank you for being so involved in your child's learning!
Sincerely,
Deborah Stephens
