This year I will be calling homework "practice." Practice is given Monday-
Thursday. Your child's practice is always displayed on your child's Weekly
Behavior Sheet. Practice is usually in Math, English, and Spelling.
Occasionally, you will have practice in Theme or a special project. Your child
will always have practice in Reading which is called Over Night Express.
The way Over Night Express works is that your child will choose a book from a
basket which has books that are a little easy, a little bit harder, and just
right for them. The books that are found in your child's basket are based on
your child's independent reading level which was determined by a Direct
Reading Assessment. Each night your child has the option of reading the book
by themselves,together with you, or you reading the book to them. Once your
child has read their book for the night have them record the title of the book
in their reading log. Your child's Over Night Express folder and book are to
be returned to school daily in order for your child to choose a new book to
read. I personally want to thank you in helping your child become a more
confident and fluent reader.
