In
Language Arts last week, we read mysteries and science fiction in our Guided
Reading groups. Students were able to recognize the author’s craft, or purpose
for writing. Our read alouds for
the week were poems. We learned
about alliteration, onomatopoeia, imagery, and understatement &
exaggeration. During writing time,
we revised and edited our short stories focusing on adding dialogue and
powerful verbs. Most students
finished writing their final draft.
In
Math, we had a division test. The
grades were very good. We are now
working on geometry with a focus on angles, polygons, triangles, and
circles. This is a short unit that
I expect to finish by Tuesday. We
will review on Wednesday and have a test on Thursday.
In
Social Studies, we are working on in-class projects of either Susan B. Anthony
or Paul Revere. Students were
given a choice of 9 different project types including technology (power point,
Comic Life, etc), writing a letter or newspaper article, creating a map,
dressing up and acting as the character, and more. We will complete the projects on Monday and then present
them on Tuesday. The students who
are dressing up should bring their simple props on Tuesday. Here are a couple of ideas: hair in a bun & ugly dress for
Susan and shirt & tie with possibly a triangle shaped paper hat for Paul.
Mrs.
Jones is teaching the class all about habitats in Science. We also had a fun High Touch High Tech
in house Science field trip on Thursday.
I was so impressed with how much everyone knew when the scientist asked
questions about regions, soil, and habitats. The shark’s tooth souvenirs were a big hit too.
Congratulations
to Alice for being our Student of the Month.
Well,
I hope to see many of you at the Jingle Jog. Hopefully, the weather will not be bad.
Have a great weekend.
