I believe that a good parent teacher relationship is essential for maximum
school success. Throughout the year I will communicate with you through
notes, telephone calls, newsletters, quarterly report cards and parent-
teacher conferences. I encourage you to contact me if you have any
questions or concerns at any time. You can send me a note, leave me a message at school (706-748-2795),or email me at pjacobs@mcsdga.net(see link on homepage).
*Please look in your child's backpack daily, we send home lots of notes.
Also, make sure your child's backpack is EMPTIED daily. This way it is easy
for you to identify current school work and communications sent home.
School Attendance
Your child's regular and prompt attendance at school is crucial to his/her
success. I can't emphasize this point enough! Most kindergarten learning
activities are group oriented and involve interaction with classmates.
It is difficult to make up work at home. Please view school as a priority
and see to it that your child attends every day except in cases of illness or emergency. If your child is absent you must send a written excuse within three school days, otherwise the absence will be count as unexcused.
School Hours
Children are encouraged to enter the classroom at 8:30 a.m. and activities for your child to participate in will be going on at this time. Your child will be counted tardy after 8:45. Please make every effort to have your child at school on time each morning. Being prompt sends an important message to your child about your attitude towards his/her education. It is
a good idea to help your child select clothes the night before and to place items that he/she needs for school in a visible location. This helps ensure a smooth start.
School dismissal for kindergarten is at 3:00. Please be prompt. Mrs. Wise and I work hard each afternoon to prepare activities for the following school day. It is difficult to get our jobs done if we have children who are being picked up late. Additionally, I have meetings that I must attend on many days and I can not arrive on time if I am still with students after
school hours. Kindergarten parents should park in front of the school near the trailers. We will exit out of our classroom's back door and walk through the schoolyard by the trailers. On rainy days, if it is raining too hard for us to walk outside, you may walk to our back door with an umbrella to get your child or you may go to the office and have them intercom our classroom. If you need to pick your child up from school early for any reason, you must check your child out through the office. They will intercom our classroom and your child will come to meet you. Johnson doors are locked at all times for safety and the only door that you may enter from 8:30-3:15 is the front entrance door.
Transportation
If there are changes in the way your child normally gets home from school,
you must send a written note. Please do not rely on your child to tell me
this important information because children sometimes get confused and relay messages incorrectly. Unless I have a written note or you have called the office and left me a message, I will send your child home in the usual
manner. If you have relied on another person to pick your child up from school, please make sure that they have followed through. It is very important to know where your child is at all times.
Money
On occasion it will be necessary for your child to bring money to school.
Always send money in a sealed envelope with the following information
written on it:
1 Your child's first and last name
2 The amount of money
3 The purpose for the money (lunch money, field trip money, etc.)
4 The teacher's name
With a class full of children to keep track of and several reasons to
collect money, this helps me out tremendously and reduces the likelihood of
errors. Also, if the envelope is left on the bus or dropped in the hallway,
this information will help the money to be returned to my classroom.
Clothing
Kindergarten can be messy. Please dress your child in clothes that he/she will not have to worry about getting dirty. Also have your child dress in comfortable shoes. Sneakers are best for the playground. It is good to avoid complicated belts and jumpsuits that your child can not manage independently. These can cause difficulty for your child during restroom visits. Last, our classroom temperature isn't always comfortable for everyone. Your child should bring a lightweight jacket or sweater to keep at school when needed.
