Dear Parents/Grandparents:

This guide is to welcome you and your child to kindergarten. I hope this
guide will help you to know what is expected in kindergarten this year and
answer any questions you may have.

School Hours and Attendance
School and class instruction begins at 8:30 each morning and ends at 3:00
each afternoon. Your child will be counted tardy after 8:45. Please make
every effort to have your child at school on time each morning. Your child’s
regular and prompt attendance at school is crucial to his/her success. Most
kindergarten learning activities are group oriented and involve hands on
learning. Therefore, it is next to impossible to make up work at home. If
for some reason your child has to be absent, please send a note the next day
explaining the reason. If a note is not received within 3 days of the
absence, the absence will be marked as unexcused. After the 5th parent
excuse, a doctor’s excuse will be required in order for the absence to be
marked as excused. (Please refer to the Johnson/MCSD Student Handbook
regarding absences.) Excessive tardiness and absences may make a negative
impact on your child’s learning.

School Dismissal
Kindergarte dismisses at 3:00. Our class will dismiss in the front of the
school outside our classroom door (at the bike rack). If for any reason you
need to pick your child up early from school, you will need to check your
child out through the office. They will intercom our classroom. Johnson
doors are locked at all times for safety and the only door you may enter
(8:30-3:15) is the front entrance.

Conference Policy
I am available for scheduled conferences after 3:15 on most days. To schedule
a conference, please send a note or call the school (706-748-2795). I will
confirm the day and time with a phone call or note home. You may also at any
time e-mail me at cprytula@mcsdga.net or phone me at home. I am always here
for you and your child.

Transportation Policy
Please note that your child’s safety and well-being are very important to
me. A determination is made during registration and the first day of school
regarding transportation home for each child. If there are changes in the
way your child will be going home of if someone other than those listed on
your child’s registration form will be picking him/her up, I must have a
WRITTEN note from you or you may leave a message with the office informing me
of how and/or with whom your child is going home. If I do not have written
permission or a message from the office, I will send your child home in the
usual manner. I hope you understand that this is for your child’s safety and
protection.

Classroom Rules
To make sure your child has the opportunity to learn this year, I want you to
be aware of the class procedures and rules. Individual and social
responsibility are important goals in our classroom. Students must be
responsible for their own learning and behavior and for acting in the best
interest of the group. In order to help students reach these goals, I have
developed the following general rules of conduct for our class:

Listen carefully and follow directions.
Use kind words and actions.
Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
Walk quietly in the hallway.
Raise your hand if you need the teacher.
Raise your hand before you speak.

Discipline Policy
In order to ensure a positive and productive learning environment for each
student in our classroom, we will discuss classroom rules and procedures at
length the first few weeks of school. Everyone will be made aware of our
expectations. We want to provide a fair and consistent atmosphere for your
child. I know with your support, this will be a wonderful year for us all!

Discipline Plan
1. Each student starts the day with an apple on the tree.
2. Each time a student breaks a rule and does not accept redirection he/she
must move his/her apple. Consequence: 5 minutes time-out per apple
    moved.
3. If a student’s apple is moved to the ground (moved apple 2 times), the
student and I will call the parent.
4. If a student‘s apple is moved to the basket (moved 3 times), the child
will be sent to the office . Some actions such as hurting another
child, cursing, or severe disruptions will result in an immediate visit
to the office, which will result in the student‘s apple being moved to
    the basket (red ticket).
5. Students may earn the chance to move their apple back for making better
    choices.
6. At the end of each day, if a student has his/her apple remaining on the
tree, he/she earns a sticker on our behavior chart and a treat.
7. Once a student has accumulated five stickers, his/her good behavior is
rewarded with a trip to the treasure box.
8. Your child will be given a colored ticket daily letting you know your
child’s apple position for the day.

Daily Behavior Tickets
Green Ticket--Student did not move apple for the day--Apple remained on the
tree
Gold Ticket--Student moved apple one time for the day--Apple moved off the
tree
Pink Ticket--Student moved apple 2 times for the day--Apple moved to the
ground
Red Ticket--Student moved apple 3 times for the day--Apple moved to basket

9. If your child has moved an apple for the day, he/she will have a
blue behavior note in his/her folder. This note will let you know
the area(s) in which your child had difficulty for the day and
should be signed and returned the next day in your child’s folder.
10. Our class will also WORK TOGETHER to earn popcorn/movie
parties to be given each Friday.
