Course Description Algebra II is a college-preparatory Foundation
Mathematics course that builds on the concepts and reasoning ability
developed in Algebra I. Through active investigations and an online textbook
that links to many math Websites, you will learn to further extend algebraic
ideas from linear functions to quadratic functions, and to other important
functions like absolute value, reciprocal, cubic, and rational functions. An
emphasis is placed on using a function as math model to solve problems in the
real world. This Algebra II course is linked to Sophomore Chemistry A
whenever there are natural points of connections. Learning is reinforced
when you use algebra in studying chemistry, and when you connect to chemistry
in studying algebra. Yet, Algebra II is also connected to other areas of
study such as physics, biology, economics, engineering, social sciences,
etc. Further, Algebra II will prepare you for Algebra 3, a pre-requisite for
advanced mathematics like Statistics, Trigonometry, Precalculus, and
Calculus. To learn well, you must be intellectually challenged and
behaviorally committed. You must engage yourself in your math, diligent in
your assignments, persistent in your inquiry, and co-operative in your study
group.
