91)?  Which do you think is the most effective form of governing? (be sure to 
describe each philosophy)

1) Should the United States export "white collar" jobs to India?
2) Why is there conflict between Muslims and Hindus in India?  Provide 
examples of this conflict.
3) Would Gandhi's use of Civil Disobedience work today?  Is it more effective 
than violence?

following three essays to participate in the seminar:

1) Knowing the lifestyle and values of Sparta, should Maryknoll's mascot be 
the Spartans?

2)Compare and contrast the plague in ancient Greece with the plague in Hawaii 
in the late 19th century?

3) Sparta used an embargo to defeat Athens.  Is this form of conflict 
resolution more effective than warfare? 

You must have the following:
parenthetical citation (at least five per essay), bibliography (ten total), 
title page, at least 350 words, times new roman, and 12 point font.

We'll have a Socratic seminar on Tuesday, Sept. 2.  You must complete the 
following essays to participate in the seminar:
1) Do the benefits of the Aswan Dam (provides electricity for half of modern 
day Egypt) outweigh the negative effects (farmers no longer have the natural 
silt from the river so they must buy expensive and dangerous chemicals for 
fertilizer).  Be sure sure to provide ample evidence of your understanding, 
the history of the dam and the Nile's historical importance for villagers, 
and clearly state your opinion.

2) Compare and contrast the Pyramids of Ancient Egypt with modern American 
monuments that honor American leaders.  Be sure to include the concepts of 
death and leadership for both cultures.

Each essay must be at least 350 typed words.  They must both have at least 
five sources and you must use parentheticals when using a source.  You must 
have a title page and also a bibliography with your minimum of ten sources.

7 Aspects of Culture Presentations will begin on 8/26.  Your presentation 
should be 3-6 minutes in length.  You may either use a PowerPoint or art to 
display your family's 7 Aspects of Culture.  The art component is worth 50 
points and will be graded on creativity and artistic effort.  The 
presentation is also worth 50 points and will be graded on: the time frame, 
introduction/conclusion, engagement, eye contact, inflection in voice, and 
describing all 7 aspects.
