Mrs. Smitherman was born and raised on Maui and graduated from St. Anthony
Jr./Sr. HS in Wailuku. She received a B.A. in English with a minor in
History from UH Manoa. After travelling through Europe and researching
abroad for a semester, she returned to Hawai`i to complete her M.A. in
English at UH Manoa. Mrs. Smitherman considers herself to be a life-long
learner and has a special interest in Medieval Studies, British literature,
fairytales and folklore, and mythology. Outside of class, she enjoys nature
and the outdoors, including activities such as long-distance running, hiking
and camping, and gardening. Animals are friends.
