What is the procedure if my child is going to be absent?

Please call the front office to let them know your child won't be
at school. The office is open from 8am to 4pm. I will gather homework and send it home with your
child as soon as they return to school.

*If a child is pulled out of school for a vacation your child can
receive all work when he/she returns to school (per student handbook.) *

lunch tickets. *White, chocolate, or strawberry milk may be bought daily at $.55. Hot lunch begins

What if I would like to help out in the classroom?

Please contact me ASAP if you would like to regularly help out in
the classroom. I usually set up the parent-volunteer schedule in the beginning of the year. If you
are not able to help out on a regular basis, there will be numerous sign-ups that go home throughout
the year for volunteers (field trips, special surprise readers, holiday parties, etc).

What should I be practicing with my child at home?

READ, READ, READ! Reading is the number one area that needs to
be practiced with your child, no matter what their reading level. Read to them, have them read to
you, explore different genres, go to the library, make it fun!

How do I get my child into the gifted program?

Although Big Hollow did have a gifted program at one time, budget
constraints have unfortunately forced the district to cut these programs for the younger
students. Once assessed, If I see that your child needs more challenging work in any subject area,
please know that I will do my best to meet your child's needs by providing leveled homework, challenge
seat work, guided reading activities and group-work, and one-on-one attention.
