LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION, READ!
Dear Parents,
Our school participates in two reading programs throughout the school year. Students keep reading logs each month. The first program is called Book It! This program runs from October – March. The second reading program is Six Flags Read to Succeed.ReadingLogs are sent home each month and need to be returned at the end of the month. Monthly reading logs are homework requirements. The children may use their decodable readers that are sent home in the homework packet each Friday on their logs. More information will be sent home when these programs begin. Also visit...Raz-Kids.com for leveled readers for your child. Click on the link below.
Each month your child will be responsible to read a book each day. If your child is reading chapter books, one chapter read = one book. Your child may read the same story more than once because this builds comprehension and fluency. While reading, please take time to predict what might happen next, find high frequency words, and discuss picture clues. Strong reading skills set the stage for your child’s successful education.
Each reading log will be due at the end of the month. You might hang the reading log on your refrigerator so your child will have a visual reminder to read every day and write the title of their book.
Thank you for making reading a priority in your family and helping your child develop this most important skill.
Thank you,
Ms. Robbin
