Classroom Routines and Procedures

Home folder: Your Child’s “Home folder” will come home daily and should be checked for important notes, hand-outs, daily work, etc. Inside you will find a “Talk Tab”. This is a convenient and useful way for us to keep in touch. You will also see your child’s monthly behavior chart stapled to the inside of talk tab. Your child’s homework will also come home in this folder on Friday. Each week your child will have spelling words, high frequency words, decodable readers and math homework. Please return folder each day.

Snack:   Each morning I have set aside a time for your child to enjoy a healthy snack. Please do not provide juice boxes only water bottles. The children will visit restrooms and water fountains several times a day. The children look forward to snack time so so don't forget to pack something. :)

Library booksYour child will be going to library every week. Please make sure your child returns their books in their large ziplock baggie for protection so they are able to check out new books. We visit the library every Thursday.

Gym Shoes:   Your child should have a pair of shoes that will only be worn for P.E. class. These will be kept under their cubbies at school. Please mark initials inside of shoes.

Extra ClothesPlease send in extra clothes and socks in a large baggie for your child to be kept at school in cubbie.

Star student: Each week one child will be chosen alphabetically to be our star student. On Friday I will send home with the child a letter outlining the schedule that your child may do to celebrate. Also sent home with this will be a poster for them to decorate. The poster will be displayed on our “Center Stage”.

Birthdays: We do celebrate birthdays for each student. If you wish to send a birthday treat to share with the class, please provide only healthy snacks. You may send it in with your child or drop it off in the morning as well as notify me prior to the day so I can ensure time is available at the end of the day. Please make sure the treats are individually packed so they can be easily handed out. The First grade team suggests healthy treats such as popcorn, pretzels, crackers, due to allergy concerns. Another alternative is either pencils or stickers.

Birdhouse chores:  Each week the children will share in chores to help the classroom be organized, efficient, and for them to have responsibilites.
