Lockdown Drill

We have successfully completed a practice school lockdown drill with the presence of the police officers on Tuesday, November 14, 2017. The police officers praised our teachers and students for moving quickly to a safe place, staying quiet, and knowing what to do.

The police officer made several suggestions that I would like to share with you:

1. We are ready for the next level, a more challenging situation where we will have a stranger walking around the building without a badge, and this will prompt any teacher or student to take immediate action and call for a lockdown. This is an example given by the police officers. The crisis/drill may be different than planned.

2. We will reinforce a visitor badge for all visitors. So, be alert of visitors without a badge. Make sure you approach and ask why they are in the building. If they fail to give a valid reason and look suspicious, initiate a lockdown.

3. No visitors are allowed to be in the classroom without prior approval from the office.

May Allah (SWT) keep us safe.

FIRST LEGO League Robotics Scrimmage

On Saturday, November 18, 2017, Daarul Uloom will be hosting its FIRST LEGO League Robotics Scrimmage, bringing together over 35 teams from across the Peoria area. This will mark DU second year of hosting the event. This is a great opportunity for our school and community to play an active role in the greater Peoria community and open our doors to our local neighbors.

One of four STEM-learning programs from FIRST®, FIRST LEGO League immerses kids in real-world science and technology challenges. Three teams from DU are participating in the competition this year insha’Allah. The students are actively learning and working together on programming, robotics, logic control, electronics, problem solving, and presentation skills.

For more information, please refer to: https://www.firstinspires.org/robotics/fll.

The Regional Qualifier is set on Saturday, December 16th at Bradley University. All the best to our DU teams!
