East Peoria Central Junior High School
7th Grade World History
Hello, I am Mr. Smith the World History teacher for 7 Blue. This is my
thirteenth year at Central Junior High School. I taught Geography for nine
years and ISS for two. I loved having the opportunity to teach World History
a year ago.
While teaching is my main duty at CJHS, I am involved in several facets of the
school. I assist in monitoring the lunchroom each day. In addition to my
duties at Central Junior High School, I am also the head coach for boys and
girls tennis teams at the high school. My wife and I currently reside in East
Peoria. I have a wife of three years, Leslie and she has,in my opinion one of
the greatest jobs, staying home with our one year old son Cooper.
I am a, “Local”, as some might call it. I grew up in East Peoria, going
through District #86 and District #309 school systems. In fact, I was a
member of the class that came to CJHS for 6th grade the very first year.
It always seems as though each year brings on interesting moments or different
challenges. I have found that there has not been one group of students that
has been the same. Kids interacting differently with each other, having
different points of views during class discussions, and multiple outlooks on
situations around the world make it fun to teach. As a teacher, I never know
what to expect, knowing each student absorbs information differently. I’m
looking forward to this year and working with the kids and you—their
families—because it is a team effort.
Central Junior High has a tradition for excellence in both academics and
extracurricular activities. Our new technology lab is one of the finest in the
state, giving students hands-on training in a variety of vocational modules.
Our teachers have been presenters at the State Board of Education and Middle
School convention, featuring our literacy.
Central Jr. High is a middle school which provides an educational
response to the needs of students during a time of both rapid growth and
maturation. There is no age level as important and difficult as that of a
middle school student. One's self-esteem, interests, skills and values are
largely formed in this three-year period. The teachers, social workers,
counselor, school nurse, support staff, special education coordinator, and
administration are anxious and well prepared to meet these physical, social,
and emotional needs.
Central Jr. High has been a pioneer in the teaming approach, one which
has been primarily used since the early 1970’s. This teaming approach fosters
cooperative learning, hands-on learning, and implementation of
interdisciplinary units in an effort to stimulate interest and make the
academics relate to everyday life. It is our hope that interdisciplinary units
will show the students how the various core subjects correlate with one
another. The data collected in this web site will assist you in understanding
our exciting programs. Thanks for taking the time to read about Central Junior
High. If you have any questions, please call at 427-5200. Together all
problems can be solved with positive results.
