What is Title I Math?
Title I is a federal program that provides additional math instruction to students who are currently achieving below grade level in mathematics. The students who qualify are not learning disabled. They just need some additional help with math.
What are the goals of Title I?
The Title I program strives to provide an environment that:
a. Promotes a positive attitude toward math
b. Improves student achievement
c. Builds students’ self-esteem and confidence
How does my child qualify for Title I?
Standardized test scores, teacher recommendations, parent recommendations, student screening information and other current student data, such as MAP Test scores, are used to determine eligibility for Title I services.
Will my child always be in the program?
No. I will be working closely with the classroom teacher to monitor student progress. When a student’s math achievement reaches their appropriate grade level, I will be conferencing with the classroom teacher to re-evaluate student eligibility. If it is decided that the student no longer needs the additional support or instruction, the student will be removed from the Title 1 program.
How does Title I benefit my child?
Title I services provide additional instruction, that reinforces learning, to students who need it. Services are provided to students in two different manners, depending on the level of need. Some students are better served in the classroom where additional support is given to reinforce the classroom teacher’s instruction. Other students require a more individualized approach where they are pulled out of the classroom to receive instruction in either an individualized or a small group setting.
