Classroom Curriculum
On this page, I will list the upcoming reading stories, math units, spelling information, and special information about the current month.
***********************************************************************************
Reading Stories for Theme 5 (last new book of the school year)
"At the Crayon Factory" Week of 4/23
"Sand Castle" Week of 4/30
"Frog and Toad Together" Week of 5/7
We will finish the last few weeks of the school year with stories and activities from other literature sources.
****Please remember that your child will be bringing home the reading book
at least one time each week to practice
reading the story
. Each week, we
will read the "Get Started" story to help with our phonics, but the main
story is listed above. Your child will need to be able to read and
comprehend the story in order to be prepared for the test each
Friday. The current story is also listed on my weekly newsletter
that is sent home each Friday.
Math
Our math series teaches concepts in a unit fashion, so your child will be
focusing on a particular skill for several lessons before being testing on
those skills.
Our next units will be Topic 18 (data and graphs), Topic 19 (fractional parts), and Topic 20 (adding and subtracting with tens and ones).
Spelling
Each list goes hand in hand with the weekly reading story. A pretest is
given on Monday of each week. Any child who gets all words correct
on the pretest will be given a challenge list. Please refer to my detailed
note that was sent home concerning challenge lists. We practice the
word lists in various ways on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The
weekly test is given on Friday.

Well, this is it. With the arrival of May, I update my webpage for the last time this year. I have enjoyed my class, and this brings bittersweet feelings for the end of the school year.
We are working our way through a plant/seed unit right now. This will be complete by the second week of May. We will then concentrate our efforts on a nutrition unit, which includes a program for parents and other guests. Please mark your calendar for Tuesday, May 15 at 2:15. We hope to see many of you there.
