Parent News
11/13/09
We will begin a new nonfiction story next week. The story “A Trip
to the Firehouse” is about a class trip to the neighborhood firehouse. The
students will learn all about how firefighters do their jobs. The vocabulary
is attached to this Parent News. Students will continue to learn about
nouns in grammar. The spelling words will be words with a long a sound.
Writing solid paragraphs will also be part of our work along with using the
dictionary.
We will begin Chapter 5 in our math series on Monday. This new math
chapter will focus on adding two-digit numbers with regrouping (carrying).
This will include math games and the use of place value blocks. All of our
hard work and practice with place value blocks and addition facts will help
the students with this new math challenge. The problem solving packets are
proving to be very helpful. Please continue to practice the subtraction
flash cards with your child at home.
It was a pleasure to meet with many parents at conferences last
Tuesday evening. I look forward to meeting with more parents on Tuesday
morning, November 24th.
We will continue to learn about the pond habitat in science. Our
tadpoles have hind legs. We will also do some interesting Thanksgiving
activities. Young Author stories are due on Friday. The students had the
opportunity to see the 8th grade play, “The Living Storybook,” at Golf Middle
School this afternoon. They enjoyed it.
Please send me a note or contact the school office if your child’s
after school transportation plans have changed for that day. If you have any
questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Enjoy the weekend.
